New Recording of an Old Song

I'm back at it again. Always going in circles with my music. After attempting to record my music with multiple musicians in the area, and not having success with schedules, I've decided to release all of my music in an acoustic format. I've also decided to record all of the songs live so they sound more organic / in the moment. I've never liked overdubbing a ton of parts. It's hard for me to get into the mood of the song unless it is live. Here's the first song I decided to record. I've been playing this song for years, but never got around to recording a version that I liked. This song is called "Youth is Wasted on the Young". Take a listen, download, share...Thanks!

"All Your Favorite Bands" - Dawes Cover

Hello Everybody,

I recorded another cover a couple nights ago. This is a cover of "All Your Favorite Bands" by Dawes. I had the privilege of seeing these guys live when they were supporting the album "All Your Favorite Bands". Dickey Betts' son, Duane Betts,  played lead guitar for the band during this tour, and it was awesome. Duane added a southern rock element that made all of their songs more exciting. Anyway here's a cover of "All Your Favorite Bands." Hope you enjoy!

The Making of "She Knew"

This month I'm working on writing new songs for my upcoming EP.  I just finished writing the chords, lyrics, and melody for "She Knew".  Right now the song is a very simple stripped down acoustic composition, which is how all of my songs start.  I will record this song to a click track so I can have a drummer and bass player layer in their parts.  I'm not really sure which direction I'm heading for the overall sound of this song...sometimes it is best to see what happens naturally.  Anyway, here's a video of the song stripped down in its simplest form.  Can't wait to show you the final version!

New Year New EP....Follow Me for the Ride!

Hello Folks,

It's 2015 and I'm ready to create some new music!  I've decided to record a 5 song EP and document the entire process.  You will get to see what goes into making an album using the DIY (do it yourself) model.

I will finish up some songs I've been toying around with, and write some songs from scratch.  I'm planning on completing all writing and creative in January, mixing and mastering in February, and releasing the album on my website in March.  It's going to be a fun process and I think you'll enjoy being a part of the project.

I'll post my song ideas as they come to fruition this month.  I look forward to sharing my music with you!

Later,
Michael

New Trio....New Sound!

Guess what?  I started a trio recently.  After a few rehearsals we played our first gig at Olde Hickory Tap Room in downtown Hickory.  It was a great time!  I forgot how much I love playing in a trio.  I'm currently setting up some more shows with the trio around town, so make sure to check out my show schedule for updates!

The trio consists of Matt Decker on drums, E'Lon Jordan-Dunlap on bass guitar, and Michael Miller, that's me :), on guitar / vocals.  We played for about three hours last Saturday at the Tap Room weaving our way through blues, rock, funk, and jazz fusion.  The show went well, and the bar is excited about having us back in the near future.

Very special guest, Tony Eltora, sat in with us for a set and it was awesome!  I always enjoy sharing the stage with Tony....he is a great player.

I'll post recordings and pictures of the trio at upcoming shows.  Until next time.....

Michael

Guess What I Just Finished?

It has been awhile since my last blog post.  Sorry for the delay!  I've been locked away in my studio working on "Black Tie" my new EP.  I had a ton of fun working on this project, and I'm excited to share the finished product with everyone.

"Black Tie" features four rock songs ranging from alt rock to blues.  E'Lon Bruce-Dunlap played bass, Matt Decker played drums, and I performed all of the guitar and vocal parts.  E'Lon and Matt were great to work with...very talented musicians.

The EP is now available on virtually every digital distribution channel such as itunes, amazon, spotify, rhapsody, google play etc.  You can download or stream the album just search for "Michael Miller Black Tie" on any of your favorite music streaming or download sites.

Take a listen to "Black Tie" below and let me know which track is your favorite.

Thanks!
Michael
